Choosing Recessed Lighting That’s Right For Minimalist Functionality

THE LIGHTING GUIDE

Choosing Recessed Lighting For Minimalist Functionality

Emanating from a ceiling’s profile, recessed downlights architecturally illuminate spaces through the power of streamlined design and focused ambient light. This type of illumination embodies modern functional elegance through its understated design, making it both an art and science to perfect.

Extraordinary illumination for architectural spaces.

Intervals Makes Choosing Recessed Lighting Easy

In 2021, SONNEMAN introduced the Intervals Recessed Downlights System: downlights with a familiar form factor engineered to deliver extaordinary illumination in a highly-customizable modular system.

“When designed with simplicity in mind, recessed lighting dynamically lights spaces through an architectural approach”, says SONNEMAN founder Robert Sonneman.

The Intervals Downlights System allows you to create an integrated lighting plan with components that can be selected to best illuminate a space and compliment its architectural details.

Choosing recessed lighting means finding a system that has the right illumination while being minimal and modern.

The Intervals Recessed Downlights System contains all the components needed to get started with a variety of sizes and trim options. The compents of the Intervals system that are visible after installation feature a minimalist form factor to compliment stunning, modern spaces.

Get to Know Your Recessed Light Components

Intervals recessed lighting fixtures contain four core components—the light engine, trim and optics. Designed for harmonic installation and everyday use, each core component is interchangeable, allowing for unparalleled flexibility for spaces large and small.

The Intervals light engine is the system's state-of-the-art light source. The engine provides consistent color available in five color temperatures as well as dimmable warm and tunable white options.

Marrying form and function, the Intervals trim is the visible portion of the system, offered in die-cast aluminum with three finish and four shape options. The intervals trim has a streamlined, airtight form, foregoing the need of a housing found in traditional recessed lighting systems.

Finally, Intervals optics are the lens by which LED light passes through. Intervals optics are high efficiency, leveraging hybrid TIR optics to provide a smooth beam of light with no softening lenses required. When choosing recessed lighting to illuminate your home, each of these components work together to create a piece of art and unique lighting for your space.

Plan Your Recessed Lighting Layout

Intervals recessed lighting is a flexible modular system that accommodates a wide-range of spaces and architectural settings. Before you set out to plan your recessed lighting scheme, sketch out an overview of your room—be it a living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom or home office—with general measurements and placements of your furniture pieces. Your recessed lighting layout should emanate from the focal point of your room.

Next, you’ll want to determine the quantity and spacing of your recessed lighting fixtures. We recommend dividing your overall ceiling height in half and using the resulting measurement as the amount of space between fixtures to provide the right amount of light.

Identify Smaller Areas to Illuminate

Recessed lighting is an elegant, efficient option for illuminating smaller transitional spaces with less access to natural light. Narrow hallways, confined closets and bathrooms all require steady illumination just as well. That’s where recessed lighting comes in, adding much-needed lighting without altering a room’s overall aesthetic statement.

Choosing recessed lighting is both an art and science. We hope the information about Intervals gives you a place to start for modern yet minimal lighting.
