Lighting in a Chrome Finish Embodies Modern
Embrace chrome finishes at home with inspired luminaires for everyday living
Twentieth Century design marked the advent of a new mode of design thinking. It’s when new perspectives propagated a functionalist approach: one where innovative production methods and undiscovered materialities paved the way for the balance of form and function seen in object design we see today. Two Bauhaus-era designers, Marcel Breuer and Mart Stam, were the first to endeavor using tubular steel–a dynamic material compared to traditional wood—in furniture and object design. In doing so, they ushered in radical forms defined by subtle linear curves and chrome materiality that cast a silver, metallic luster and light-capturing shine.
Influenced by the Bauhaus, SONNEMAN founder Robert Sonneman pioneered the adoption of modern techniques and materialities in lighting object design, embracing chrome in designs from then to now. Nodding to a storied design heritage, we believe chrome is an apt solution for spaces throughout the home.

Channel Versatility in Chrome
In any interior, balance is key. Lighting fixtures in a Chrome finish are inherently versatile with their cool, reflective surfaces that resemble liquid silver. However, like any design element, they require the right mix of components to pair with its metallic appearance in a total design. Chrome pairs perfectly with natural materials—think wood furniture, leather upholstery or jute flooring—creating a dynamic interplay and refined balance, grounding any space in modernity and tactility.

Embrace Contrast
Chrome tends to be chameleon-like in its surroundings, able to compliment a varied spectrum of design eras and sensibilities. You can easily incorporate chrome lighting fixtures of any style into an interior that’s otherwise traditional, mid-century modern or contemporary for easygoing eclecticism. Because of its inherent versatility, chrome lighting is also an excellent way to create contrast within a space. If your furniture and architecture exemplifies clean lines, opt for a more organic lighting expression, like the Pillows Chandelier, for visual diversity.

Celebrate Color
Because chrome is highly reflective, it is able to amplify everything that surrounds its mirrored modern surface. In addition to seamlessly meshing with neutral tones, this materiality creates brilliance and eclecticism when paired with color. Incorporate a chrome finish with streamlined backdrops of color—either black and white or vibrant primary hues—on walls, ceilings or surfaces throughout the home.
Steeped in modern heritage, chrome adds a dose of versatile brilliants to spaces at home.
